Although history shows an early short recess in active continuation of the Association there are plans for a Fifty-year celebration in September 2003 to commemorate the NDAA foundation.
The Association assumes the status and responsibility as the official controlling body of angling in the Hunter Region.
Newcastle District Anglers Association Incorporated consists of a large number of Clubs whose activities cover a wide range of fishing interests such as: -
BEACH - ROCK - ESTUARY - OFFSHORE - FRESHWATER and SPEAR FISHING.
The Association is a non-profit organization with all Officers acting in an honorary capacity. The delegates representing the affiliated clubs within the district elect the Executive Officers at the Annual Meeting from nominations of financial members.
The foundation meeting of the Association was held on the 17th December 1952 at Hamilton Ladies Bowling Club, in Gregson Park, Hamilton, with the following clubs present: -
Stewarts & Lloyds, Snapper, Northern NSW, Mayfield, Stockton, Gordon Avenue, Commonwealth Steel and Junction.
The new Association struggled to establish itself in the region with difficulty until 28th July 1955, when it went into voluntary recess.
The Newcastle District Anglers Association was reformed on 3rd March 1961, at Howard Smith Chambers, Newcastle with the following clubs in attendance: -
Belmont, Snapper, Newcastle Deep Sea, Dudley, Northern NSW and Tea Gardens.
The Association has grown over the intervening 29 years into a progressive organization which continues to develop the necessary skills to administer the needs of its member clubs as well as contribute to the public debate on many issues concerning the national utilisation and management of recreational resources.
The Newcastle District Anglers Association conducts a series of competitive Championship events each season as well as keeping a record Fish List representing the heaviest of each specie progressively caught. Association teams have achieved significant successes in State Championship events over the years, as have many club teams and individuals.
Newcastle District Anglers Association Club members regularly represent the District in NSW Teams to the National Championships.
However, a most important development in recent years has been the Associations involvement in environmental matters of particular concern to the fishing fraternity.
To this end an Environmental Officer has been elected and an Environmental management committee appointed. This facet of the Associations activities is seen as extremely important, because without intelligent management of our basic resource (the ocean - lakes - rivers etc.) there will be nothing for future generations of anglers to enjoy.
The Newcastle District Anglers Association Incorporated is one of Thirteen Divisions spread statewide, which constitutes the NSW Fishing Clubs Association.
The Newcastle District Anglers Association has executive representation on the State Management Committee and through this input the Australian Anglers Association (the National Body) as well as the Australian Recreational Fishing Confederation (the Federal Body).
Over the years many individuals have made significant contributions to the growth of the organization with some current executive members having served for more than 25 years. It is anticipated that the new decade will present new problems as well as an extension of the existing ones, however with conscientious effort and sensible approach desirable solutions should be formed.
Evidence of the continued growth of the Association occurred in October 1989 when it achieved incorporation to be now known as
